Patient's Condition

This patient underwent surgical treatment for disc herniation 37 years ago. In recent years, he has been experiencing lower back pain and sciatica. After an examination, he was diagnosed with recurrent disc herniation and spinal canal stenosis. Due to the high risk associated with surgical procedures and the potential need for fixation surgery, he decided to visit our clinic for consultation.

Examination & Test Results

Treatment Scene①

The MRI scan of the patient's lower back showed disc deformity from the second lumbar vertebra L/2 down to the first sacral vertebra S/1, and a diagnosis of disc herniation was made. Additionally, the nerves are being compressed from the backside, indicating spinal canal stenosis.

Treatment Details

Discseel Procedure (DST)

Aiming to improve the disc function and inflammation in the adjacent arias in order to alleviate lower back pain and sciatica symptoms, we performed Discseel Procedure (DST) on three disc levels (L3/L4, L4/L5, L5/S1).

Treatment Scene②

As the patient informed us that sedation was not necessary, we prepared for the treatment with only local anesthesia. The discomfort is comparable to receiving a vaccine injection.

Treatment Scene③

This image shows the insertion of the treatment needles into the intervertebral discs. If there is no bone deformation, the insertion can be completed in about 10 seconds. The preparation for all four locations takes about 1 to 2 minutes.

Treatment Scene④

If a patient's family wishes to observe the treatment, they can do so through a glass window as shown in this photo.

This video shows the examination of the intervertebral discs. If family members are present, they can also observe the treatment process through this it. The treatment time was 15 minutes. If there is severe bone deformation, the procedure may take a little longer.

A Message from the Clinic`s Director

In the afternoon outpatient session today, a 67-year-old male patient who had received treatment at our clinic 2 years and 3 months ago visited us. Although his sciatica had improved after the treatment, he recently started feeling pain in his right knee when moving. Upon examination, we found localized pain in the knee, not related to nerve pain, and suspected degenerative knee joint disease. We referred him to a nearby orthopedic clinic. Fortunately, there were no abnormalities in his lower back, but knee joint pain can create a lot of trouble too.

Country Side

This facility in Shiga Prefecture that I have visited there before is called "La Colina". They are famous for their Baumkuchen (a traditional German cake). Living in a rural area like this is my dream.
