Patient's Information
80-year-old female
Disease & Symptoms
Patient's Condition
The patient had been aware of her back pain for some time, but since it did not interfere with her daily life, she didn't do anything about it. However, her lower back pain worsened several years ago, and despite receiving treatment at a nearby orthopedic clinic, there was no improvement. Recently, her condition deteriorated to the point where she could hardly walk, which led her to seek treatment at our clinic.
Examination & Test Results
The MRI examination of the lumbar spine revealed a loss of height in multiple disc levels, accompanied by deformation. We diagnosed Intervertebral Disc Degeneration and Intervertebral Disc Herniation. Misalignment of the lumbar spine was also observed, leading to a diagnosis of Lumbar Spondylolisthesis.
Treatment Details
Discseel Procedure (DST)
We aimed to alleviate the symptoms of lower back pain by improving inflammation around the intervertebral discs and their function. This time, we treated four intervertebral disc locations (L2/L3, L3/L4, L3/L4, L5/S1).
The patient was positioned prone, and treatment needles were inserted into the intervertebral discs while having him under sedation.
We used an X-ray fluoroscopy device to verify the positioning of the treatment needles and the intervertebral discs.
The position of the treatment needle is confirmed in this video, so nerve damage or blood vessel damage are unlikely to occur. The treatment time was approximately 18 minutes.
A Words from the Clinic's Director
It has been six years since I started my practice in Shin-Osaka, but for the first time, I can take a short summer vacation. With the assistance of Vice Director Ishida, Dr. Yamazaki, Dr. Sasayama, and Dr. Tomioka, I will be taking a 2-day break. I will not be able to update the blog on July 31st and August 1st, but I hope to create some wonderful memories during that time.
